Found JBC through Which? Local. Previous reviews are totally accurate. Jim and his team are polite and professional. They always tidy up after themselves. Quotes are prompt and accurate. Perhaps most importantly, Jim always wants the customer to be happy with the work. Highly recommended for all building work.
Due to a serious illness in family we found ourselves in the position that we needed a extension suitable for disabled access. This included a bedroom and wetroom, decking area with ramp access and alterations to widen interior doors. After having massive problems with another builder after 2 months of work it had to be demolished as per building control as it was unsafe.
I contacted Jim McCaig explained the situation I was in and he came to see me the same night, had a quote to be by the next day and had started work within a few days. He took over all dealings with building control, architect, engineer and had the job completed in about 6 weeks. He kept me informed of everything on a daily basis and his suggestions and ideas were great and nothing was a problem to him. Extension looks fantastic.
Thanks To Jim and his men.
I have been trying to find a builder to sort out a damp problem in my entrance hall for some considerable time. After being let down badly by at least 2 other builders I approached JBC for an estimate. Mr McCaig turned up on time and had the estimate emailed to me the same evening. I was impressed by his knowledge and professional approach and asked him to do the work for me. The work was done within a week of his visit and I am delighted with the result. I would have no hesitation in recommending JBC for any building work you may require and I have already passed on Jim McCaig's contact details to my family and work colleagues.
If you are looking for a reliable builder then look no further.
We contacted JBC to do a couple of jobs earlier this year - changing a doorway to an archway between 2 rooms and replacing a front door step. Both jobs were done well and at reasonable cost. As a result, we then asked Jim and his team back to do some work in our back garden. The patio was replaced and extended, all the turf lifted, ground levelled and artificial turf laid. We are delighted with the result, the quality of the finish and attention to detail paid by Jim and his colleagues to the work. For these reasons and the professional way in which Jim and his colleagues worked (in the absolutely baking sun in July!) is why we have no hesitation in recommending this company to others.
I wrote a review for JBC some years ago, when they modernized my kitchen and quarry-tiled the ground floor of my 2 bedroom ex-council house.
Starting in December 2011, the firm did much more extensive work, building a back extension to my house, and thus creating a lounge and a utility room/toilet. Jim McCaig guided me through the planning permission/building warrant process, and then went on to do a first class job. The project was completed to a very high standard (way above what I thought I would get) within budget and on time. If you want an intellegent, efficient and reasonably priced builder, then go to JBC. If you want a cowboy, then look elsewhere! I have no hesitation in recommending JBC for projects great and small.
Mr Buddy Whitman
We needed a simple lintel replacing above our window which was showing signs of distress, and the water was starting to get into the wall.
I contacted Jim at JBC purely because of the reviews here. He came and gave a reasonable quotation (by email) which we accepted and he replaced the lintel within a week.
All work was completed quickly, safely and to a very high standard.
There was no mess left at all - he even picked up the small bits of concrete that had landed on our front lawn.
Very impressed with the service and will use again.
Am late in posting review but can confirm that this is an excellent firm to deal with. I had three separate issues which included outside and inside work. Two of the problems were immediately resolved but the third involved a leak in the bathroom which reoccurred. This was when Jim McCaig was excellent and unlike any builders I have previously dealt with, he assessed the completed work, identified the problem and completed the repair immediately with no further cost to myself. 6 months later there have been no problems with any of the repairs.
I contacted Jim after reading reviews on Which? Local and wasn't disappointed. He contacted me the same day I left a message on his phone and came out to see the damage to our chimneys 2 days later. By the end of the week we had a very reasonable quote from him to re-render both chimneys. The work was carried out 3 weeks later and Jim and his workmen carried out the job in 2 days. I'd been trying to get someone to repair my chimneys for 2 months prior to that and each one I called never got back to me or the quotes were a total rip off. I would have no hesitation on getting Jim and his team to do further work on our house if it was required as they carried out the work quickly and efficiently and were very pleasant too!!
Had all windows of my house re-pointed recently. Was a bit suspicious when the price quoted was almost 50% cheaper than other local firms. However, the work (which was considerable) was carried out to a high standard, using good quality materials. No shortcuts were taken. Worthy of recommendation.
I am writing a slightly different review on JBC Maintenance from those I have submitted before. The firm has done a number of large projects for me before, which I have reviewed. Today was different. My electricity supply kept on cutting out. So no heat, no power, no phone. I rang Jim on his mobile, and within two hours he had isolated the problem (a fault on the electric oven connection), and made it safe so that I could use the rest of the system. Later, he returned with replacement parts for the connection, and had me up and running in minutes. He charged me so little for this work that I decided to ignore him and paid him more.
So for small/emergency jobs as well as big ones, I'd unhesitatingly recommend JBC. They really are a first class act.
